Airfront Media Ltd is the professional guise of Paul Michael Smith a freelance web-designer based in Manchester, England.
Founded in 2009, Airfront works with some of the worlds best digital agencies & organisations both large and small. I specialise in crafting high traffic websites, applications and mobile services with care and impeccable attention to detail.

I’m a 29 year old designer and front-end developer raised in Manchester, UK. I have a BA(Hons) Interactive Multimedia degree from the University of Huddersfield.
I’ve worked for digital agencies, software houses and independent clients for the last 10 years. I spent 3 years at the BBC as a senior client-side developer contributing to the restructure of bbc.co.uk and winning 2 Royal Television Society awards in the process.
I take an enormous amount of pride in my work, which is why I believe I have excellent testimonials and recommendations on LinkedIn.
I’d like to give a compelling answer but the truth is rather dull. Its for two reasons: Firstly I wanted a name that nobody else already had that used the word “front” because front-end development is predominantly the service I offer. Secondly, there are a handful of well respected companies that use “Air” in their name and I wanted to subtly bracket myself with those companies by playing on the name.
Finally most memorable names are sort and contain two syllables or words bunched together such as PayPal, eBay, Napster, etc. Which is also part of the reason I went for the name.
Firstly you can contact me via the contact form or by calling +44 (0)161 795 7792 with a description of your work as well as the dates you require my services. I can provide you with my rates or an estimate and discuss any ideas you have for the work.
If for whatever reason I’m unavailable or unable to help I will endeavor to recommend one of my highly talented peers and associates who can.
I use a MacBook Pro with Adobe CS5, Textmate, MacRabbit Espresso, Panic Transmit and Parallels. This site runs in a LAMP environment (Linux, MySQL, Apache, PHP) is powered by the excellent ExpressionEngine Publishing Platform (CMS).
Feel free to poke around any of my CSS, HTML & JavaScript as much as you like, that’s how we all learn but please don’t take any of the images on this website. Most of my images are original created by me or are purchased under license and so would not be licensed to you. If you really must have something then contact me and I can assist you in purchasing the image or creating them for you. If you do take any code please give credit back with a link to airfront.co.uk.
The “cloud rainbow” is my favourite natural phenomenon called a “Circumhorizon Arc”. Its one of nature’s most stunning creations.
I love it because its also very rare and takes just the right set of conditions to create one. Formation requires that the sun be very high in the sky, at an elevation of 58° or more, and that the cirrus cloud or haze contains plate-shaped ice crystals. The sun’s altitude determines its visibility.
I use it in part of the Airfront logo and have the motive as a reminder that something great can’t be churned out at will and should contain just the right elements.
Unfortunately due to the non-disclosure contract I signed with the BBC I am not permitted to publicly post screenshots or examples of any of the work I did during my time there. I am however free to privately discuss most of the work I did and my role at the BBC should you have any questions about it. Please get in touch.
